More than ever parents of new drivers are experiencing the financial results of traffic accidents; high insurance premiums and sky-rocketing deductibles. Far more troubling than the financial concerns, parents can’t ignore the risk of physical injury. Preliminary numbers from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) confirm an 8% increase in fatalities in the first 9 mos. of 2016. In 2015, NHTSA reported over 35,000 deaths, up over 7% from the previous year. Autobahn wants to change this trend.
BMW is the Official Vehicle of Autobahn’s Defensive Driving Program
Defensive Driving is no accident!
At Autobahn, we don’t like the term ‘accident’. A properly trained, experienced, and alert driver is much more likely to avoid a collision than a driver who’s never even been taught the basics early in their driving history. Autobahn’s Defensive Driver Training Programs focus on those basics:
- Skid Control
- Collision Avoidance
- Emergency Braking with ABS
- Safety Related Maintenance
Participants drive our fleet of BMW’s, the official vehicle of Autobahn’s Defensive Driving Program. Unlike classroom-based or online programs, Autobahn’s training includes four hours of behind-the-wheel drills, giving drivers the opportunity to apply what they’ve learned in the classroom and practice the skills in a safe, controlled environment. Our instructors are professional race car drivers with years of training and experience.
In the first of two, interactive classroom sessions our driving professionals explain the physics of why cars behave the way they do (Vehicle Dynamics) and how to properly control them. After lunch, the second classroom discussion covers the problems caused by other drivers and how to deal with them.
Throughout the rest of the day participants rotate through four drills in succession practicing accident avoidance and emergency lane change techniques, threshold braking under low traction conditions, and skid control and recovery utilizing our state of the art dynamic skid training vehicle, all on our Vehicle Dynamics Skid Pad. Additionally, participants learn about the basics of caring for their vehicle during our vehicle maintenance segment. Participants must have a valid driver’s license.
Autobahn Drives Results
Your teens will leave Autobahn with necessary driving skills and confidence needed to negotiate the streets of Chicago. Parents, wouldn’t you prefer paying $389 now instead of a $1,000 deductible later?
